Job Description

The platform consists of a front-office desktop application (WPF .NET) connecting to a back-end real-time and on-demand reporting service (Java), connecting to data streams and data sets from a number of report input data services for managing position, product, and market data and calculating risk, P&L and attribution across a grid of several hundred blade servers. The platform also provides auxiliary interfaces for Excel, Python and JavaScript users of risk and P&L reports. The risk technology team is currently split across London, New York and Hong Kong, as well as Cary DB Technology Center in North Carolina, and consists of developers, project managers, business analysts and QAs.

Role

The role is on the Flow Risk development team in New York to work on the Report Server project, a distributed Java server component of system. The successful candidate will work on a large number of initiatives enhancing the capabilities of the Flow Risk reporting platform for the existing production users, or building out new functionalities aimed at migrating new business areas onto the system from the legacy platforms.

The technical areas of work include a core reporting framework providing real-time analytics, pivoting, slicing-and-dicing of business data streams, integration of new data streams and static data sources. The lead developer will participate in the full software development lifecycle – including business requirements analysis, solution design, prototyping and development, testing and product ionization of the developed pieces of software that is highly critical to bank risk management functions – from trading, through middle office (P&L controllers, market risk, finance) and back office regulatory reporting.

Core Responsibilities

– Hands-on Java server software development in a team spanning two time-zones (based in London, New York and Cary, NC)

– Involvement at all stages of SDLC: analysis, design, development, unit and integration testing, UAT facilitation, packaging, deployment

– Cooperation with other development teams, functional analysts and business analysts and numerous stakeholders of the project, as appropriate for the area of work

– SL3 support for the production system as part of the developer support

Experience

– in developing high-throughput, low-latency data processing systems with aspects of performance tuning of complex, heavily multi-threaded Java server applications

– working on and delivering large-scale, globally distributed systems in an Agile manner, with application of Test-Driven Development and continuous integration

– in a multi-OS environment, including Unix, Linux, Microsoft Windows, involving application development and analysis

– with cross-platform messaging environments and serialization formats including XML, Google protocol buffers, Json, etc.

Skills

Expert server-side Java programming skills, with distinct focus on distributed systems and multi-threading

– Working knowledge of JDBC, SQL, Spring, Maven, Unit Testing, Cucumber

– Good team-leading, team-working and communication skills

– Strong analytical and technical background with good problem-solving skills

– Domain knowledge of financial derivatives (ideally equity derivatives) will be advantageous

– Curious and pragmatic individual

Qualifications

– Graduate degree is preferred, preferably in computer science, math or physics.
